ALCOY - In the coming days the place Alcoy will be dominated by the most important festivals of the year: the festivals of Moors and Christians.Where many places and villages on the Costa Blanca commemorate the battle between the Moors and the Christians, are the festivals Alcoy's oldest and largest: the parade on April 22 lasts almost all day. During the Alcoy celebrations a battle is commemorated from 1276, when the inhabitants of Alcoy resist the troops of the Moorish leader Al-Azraq. The tradition tells that patron saint Sant Jordi (Saint George) appeared above the castle and helped to achieve victory. The festivities will always end on April 24 with the re-enactment of this Sant Jordi appearance.
